Eucalyptus can minimize groundwater effects on Rangel

Luanda - The reforestation of eucalyptus trees in Luanda's urban district of Rangel can help combat groundwater, avoiding floods and damage caused by this phenomenon, environmentalist Simão dos Santos said Monday.

Speaking to the press on the sideline of the launch of the environmental education project "Community without garbage, more health", held in Luanda, the environmentalist stressed that among the specificity of eucalyptus is the ability to absorb 200 liters of water per day.

Simão Santos added that it is important that environmental works involve specialists in the area; since each tree has its specificity and must be preserved.

The Action for Rural Development and Environment (ADRA) launched this Monday the project "Community Without Trash, More Health", which provides training of environmental activists in Kilamba Kiaxi, Viana and Rangel, with a view to changing the behavior of communities in relation to the environment.
