TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - The Texas College softball team is preparing for their upcoming opener of the conference tournament in Louisiana.

It’s been a long time since they’ve had the opportunity to compete in tournaments of this caliber. The turnaround in success for the team comes from the outstanding coaching from Jasmine Beck, a steers softball team alumni who believe it or not, is in her first year of her coaching career.

“The one thing I tell the girls is that at any moment it can be taken away from you. Our motto this year was ‘I belong here’, they all have unique story so I told them Romans 8:28, all things work together for the good of them,” said coach Beck.

Beck was assistant coach at Jarvis, Praire View, and Huston Tillotson before being hired as head coach for Texas College. She’s not the type to lay back and watch and likes to get involved in the team’s drills.

“Yeah I still got a little bit.... I can still play a little bit,” says coach Beck.

Something that has contributed to their success on the field is the trust factor that the players have on their coach.

“It’s big. My girls been through a lot. They’ve had three different coaches before.... so coming in and just building that trust,” said Beck.

According to Beck, the biggest supporter of the team is their Athletic Director Randy Butler.

“I keep the girls encouraged, I keep all the programs encouraged. I think when they see that I’m vested, that makes them vested,” said Butler.

Without a doubt this Texas College softball team is making a difference.
