24th annual Earth Day Festival this week
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The City of Savannah is hosting their annual Earth Day Festival this week.
Their focus this year is “Healthy Planet, Healthy People.” They’re set to have vendors, food trucks, and educational workshops.
Alicia Brown, the interim Director of Sustainability for the City, says that the lessons that will be taught at the event are especially important for us here in the Coastal Empire.
“Well we’re right here on the coast of Georgia so we’re dealing with the impacts of climate change directly. We’re experiencing heat waves, hurricanes, flooding. Even the pollen season is being affected by climate change. It’s important that we understand what’s happening - what we can do to slow it down - how we can adapt. Also just protecting our natural resources for generations to come,” Brown said.
The festival Friday, April 19 in Daffin Park. It’s set to start at 4 p.m. and go until 7:30 p.m.
The City of Savannah’s Office of Sustainability is partnering with the Lite Foot Environmental Foundation to host this event.
