Flash flood watch continues for northern, southeastern parishes

Published:Sunday | December 10, 2017 | 12:00 AM

The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has extended the Flash Flood Watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of Hanover, St James, Trelawny, St Ann, St Mary, Portland, St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew.

The Flash Flood Watch is effective until 5:00 tomorrow morning.

However, the advisory has been discontinued for low-lying and flood prone areas of St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland.

The Met Service says a Stationary Front across Jamaica continues to produce unstable weather conditions.

It says satellite imagery and radar reports indicate that light to moderate and at times heavy showers have been mostly affecting northern and southeastern parishes today.

The forecast is for periods of showers to continue affecting sections of these parishes tonight and throughout the day tomorrow.

Flash flooding is therefore possible over some low-lying and flood-prone areas of northern and southeastern parishes.

A Flash Flood Watch means that flash flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service, and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.
