Benue flood: Tarkighir seeks ecological funds from FG, relief materials from NEMA

Member Representing Makurdi/ Guma federal constituency, Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, has called on the Federal Government, to as a matter of urgent public importance, release ecological funds to Benue state, to curb the menace of incessant flooding.

To this effect, Hon. Tarkighir promised that, he, along with other representatives from the state, would sponsor a bill to facilitate the release of funds.

The lawmaker disclosed this, Thursday, while touring areas affected by the flood that has rendered so many people homeless in Makurdi metropolis.

Tarkighir, who has been a guest at ECOWAS Parliament in Togo, said, he has personally written to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to speed up the process of providing relief materials to the victims.

The Member of ECOWAS Parliament said, he had to cut short his official engagement to Republic of Togo to personally access the level of devastation for onward presentation to the National Assembly.

While inspecting the damaged portion of the road behind Mobile Filling Station at Kanshio, Hon. Tarkighir directed his team of Engineers to immediately ascertain the cost of repairs and submit to him within forty-eight hours for necessary action.

Responding, leader of the Radio Benue Community, Alexander Fanafa, that of Civil Service Commission settlement, Mrs. Mercy Abah and Anjam Azever from Kanshio all thanked Tarkighir for his prompt response, saying he was the first legislator to visit them at this moment of travail.

They appealed to him to liaise with the State Government to construct more drainage as well as demolish structures built on water ways.

Areas visited by the Honourable member were Radio Benue Community, Civil Service Commission, Achusa and Kanshio.
